Writing and Programming a Choose Your Own Adventure

In this lecture we will look at the open source Ink scripting language - a tool used for the creation of branching stories for games such as 80 Days and Sorcery. Ink is a very powerful toolset which can be used to create branching narratives and even includes a basic structure for game logic. It can also be fully integrated with the Unity game engine making it an extremely flexible and versatile tool for any game which incorporates branching dialogue or divergent narrative. The first half of the lecture will focus on the basics of making your own interactive story using Ink and the freely available Inky editor. No prior experience is required as the language is extremely simple to use. The second half of the talk will look at a sample Unity project which demonstrates how the Ink scripting language can be used within Unity and the full possibilities which it offers. This will be of particular interest to game developers looking for a simple framework for use in their own narrative driven games.

Participants are welcome to bring their own laptops to try out Ink on the day to write their own choose your own adventure!

Online Gaming - Working Out What Players Want

How to work within a team, moving forward in your career, & tackling tough situations - come listen to Hunted Cow’s CCO discuss the lessons she’s learned along the way from wide-eyed graduate to leading a team.

(Also included: a rapidfire round on how NOT to mess up your application, because this whole talk is redundant if you're still trying to get over this first hurdle!)

All disciplines of game dev are welcome, though you may have to forgive a slight bias towards the artistic aspects!
